MagicJack.com - A local phone line for $20/year
What is magicJack? magicJack is a Voice over IP service that works by plugging a USB device into your computer. For $40, you get the device (about the size of a big USB Stick) and the first year of phone service with a local number. You also get a free phone number with your magicJack so it can be utilized both to receive and place calls. Area codes for approximately 70% of the U.S. are available. (Porting existing phone numbers and selected Canadian area codes will be available shortly.) For calls from the magicJack to phone numbers outside the United States or Canada there are highly competitive international rates. However, all calls between two magicJacks anywhere in the world are free. MagicJack also comes with directory assistance, call waiting, voicemail and caller ID. You can move magicJack between Internet providers and you can use magicJack from anywhere in the world (where broadband web access is available).
Installation is simple and takes 60 seconds. All a consumer needs is Windows XP or Windows Vista or Mac and one of the following: DSL, Broadband, Cable Internet, WiFi, WiMax, or high speed internet service.
I have to admit, when I first saw the infomercial for Magicjack.com, I thought there was no way it would work as well as advertised. But I figured for $40, I didn’t have much to lose. So I ordered it and it arrived in the mail just a couple of days later. I was amazed that it did everything it said it was going to do. I have been using it for several months now and continue to be amazed by how well this device works. I got one for my office and am thinking of getting another one for my house since my cell reception is horrible there. Give it a try!
